To increase the value of this website, archival material is being added.
This includes a complete run of the journal Ikhwezi published in the early 1950s by the Local Health Authority that administered Edendale and a few other communities. This was unearthed by historian Marc Epprecht and the university archives at Wits kindly granted permission for Natal Society Foundation Trust to make this resource available.
Work is currently underway to add the records of the Pietermaritzburg Detainees Support Committee, details of well over 2 000 individuals from the Natal Midlands held in detention without trial during the states of emergency of June 1986 to October 1990.
The addition of other, similar resources is planned.
